South Africa were handed an early injury scare during India’s innings as wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock was struck on the fingers while keeping to Lungi Ngidi.
The incident occurred when Ngidi bowled an off-pace delivery at around 117 kmph to Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek attempted to launch the ball straight down the ground but failed to make contact, with the ball bouncing in front of de Kock and striking him on the fingers. De Kock was visibly in pain and required on-field attention from the physio.
This was the second time de Kock was hit on the fingers earlier in the innings. On the very first ball of the match, Ngidi generated extra bounce with a short-of-a-length delivery outside off to Sanju Samson. Samson went hard on the slash but was beaten by the bounce, and the ball swirled awkwardly before striking de Kock on the gloves, leaving him uncomfortable.
The early movement and uneven bounce have made wicketkeeping tricky, adding an extra layer of challenge for South Africa behind the stumps.
