Ruturaj Gaikwad’s superb century in Raipur came with a major milestone, as his partnership with Virat Kohli entered the record books. The duo added 195 runs for the third wicket, creating the highest-ever partnership for India against South Africa in ODI cricket — for any wicket.
They surpassed the long-standing 194-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik from Gwalior in 2010.
Gaikwad, who brought up his maiden ODI hundred, eventually fell for 105 after picking out the fielder at deep backward square leg. His dismissal ended the record-breaking partnership but did not take away from what has been a monumental knock and a landmark stand for India.
Kohli, meanwhile, continues to anchor the innings as India push towards a massive total.
