India suffered a setback in the 36th over as Ruturaj Gaikwad’s magnificent innings came to an end, with Marco Jansen finally breaking the 195-run partnership in Raipur. Gaikwad, who had just brought up his maiden ODI hundred, fell for a brilliant 105 off 83 balls.

The dismissal came off a 117.9 kph short-of-length delivery, rising around hip height. Gaikwad went for the aerial pull but failed to get enough elevation, sending a straightforward catch to de Zorzi at deep backward square leg. The opener looked devastated as he walked back, but the Raipur crowd rose in a standing ovation to acknowledge a special knock.

At the time of his dismissal, India were 257/3 in 35.5 overs, with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 96(85) and scoring freely at the other end.

Gaikwad’s innings included 12 fours and 2 sixes, and also featured the second-fastest ODI century for India against South Africa (77 balls).
