India Women endured a poor start to their defense against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 as they lost a DRS review on the very first ball of the innings.
Renuka Singh Thakur’s opening delivery to Muneeba Ali swung away sharply, drawing a noise that prompted the Indian players to appeal confidently. With the umpire unmoved, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur opted for an early review — but replays showed a clear gap between bat and ball, with the sound coming from the ball flicking the thigh pad.
The delivery had pitched well outside leg, confirming no LBW, and India wasted a review just one ball into Pakistan’s chase of 248.
Renuka, however, continued to trouble the openers with her late swing, keeping the pressure intact. Pakistan Women were 1/0 after the first two balls, with Muneeba Ali off the mark, while Sadaf Shamas joined her at the crease.
A frustrating start for India, but an early glimpse of the movement Renuka Singh could extract under lights in Colombo.
