Indian captain Virat Kohli is set to equal MS Dhoni’s record of most matches as a captain of the Indian team in Tests as India take on England in the fourth Test at Ahmedabad. The match would be Kohli’s 60th Test as skipper and it would tie with Dhonis’s record.

The right-handed batsman is also 17 runs away from 12,000 international runs as captain, a feat achieved only by Australian stalwart Ricky Pointing and South African great Graeme Smith before him.
Pointing scored 15,440 runs as Aussie captain, while Smith had 14,878 runs under his name while leading South Africa.

Additionally, Kohli is also one century away from going past Ricky Pointing for most tons as international captain. The last time he crossed the three-figure mark was in 2019 during the day-night Test against Bangladesh.

In case he does score a century at the Narendra Modi Stadium, it would his 42nd while captaining the Indian squad. Also, he can equal Clive Lloyd’s record of 36 Test victories if India wins the match.

While Kohli is yet to hit a century in the series against England, he is the fourth-highest run-scorer behind Joe Root, Rohit Sharma ad R.Ashwin.

Kohli did score two half-centuries in the first two Tests of the series, which was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

If India wins, they would qualify for the finals of the inaugural World Test Championship.
