Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah was released from the Indian Test squad ahead of the fourth and final Test against England on Saturday. The final Test begins on March 4 in the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India accepted Bumrah’s request to be released from the Test match on personal grounds.
The BCCI in the media release stated, “Jasprit Bumrah made a request to BCCI to be released from India’s squad ahead of the fourth Test owing to personal reasons. Accordingly, the fast bowler has been released and he will not be available for selection for the fourth Test.”
The board further added that there would be no replacement for the Indian fast bowler in the Test squad for the series decider in Motera.
“There will be no addition to India’s squad for the final Test,” the release added.
Bumrah bowled only six overs in the first innings of the pink-ball Test on his home ground but did not pick any wicket. The pacer was rested for the second Test after he picked three for 84 and one for 2 in the first Test in Chennai.
While BCCI has not mentioned any replacement, it is most likely that either Mohammed Siraj or Umesh Yadav would get a chance to play in the India XI.
India has taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match series by defeating England by 10 wickets in the third Test match in Ahmedabad.
India’s squad for the 4th Test: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Md. Siraj, Umesh Yadav
