India vs England: After a failure in Australia Mayank Agarwal is set to miss the first Test against England at Chennai. England is in India for a two-month long tour in which they will play five Tests and T20Is and also three ODIs. Shubman Gill’s innings of 91 in the fourth Test against Australia at the Gabba seemed to cement his spot in India Test squad. Gill or Agarwal a conundrum for the selection committee.
Agarwal averages 99.50 on home soil. Though after a successful tour of Australia the team management may look to trust the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. and as Virat Kohli returns at number 3. Agarwal may not his find any role in the middle order as well. The Karnataka batsman hadn’t done much wrong in Tests, however, his poor show in Australia may have helped the selectors to drop him and pick Gill instead.
The fourth and the final Test in Brisbane was a perfect opportunity for Agarwal to show his class and offer something to his captain and the team. Agarwal scored crucial 35 runs at number 5 to inch closer to Australia’s total. however, Gill was dismissed cheaply for just 7 runs.
It’s was the second innings that Gill showed his true potential and played a sensational knock of 91 and that knock is one of the reasons why he may be given preference over Agarwal. In the second innings, Agarwal failed and disappointed the selectors. He just scored 7 runs.
