IND vs BAN: How Shakib’s five-fer restricted team India’s total to 186 runs?

India was put in to bat in the first ODI at Dhaka and bowled out for just 186 thanks to Shakib Al Hasan’s masterful bowling.  Shakib finished with a final tally of 5 for 36, including the dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his very first over.

Earlier, Bangladesh brought in early spinner which gave them the first breakthrough after Mehidy struck the stumps. Dhawan tried to hit a reverse sweep but the ball delivered by Mehidy intended to spin a bit low which hit the stumps, resulting in Dhawan’s walk back to the pavilion.

That effort was actually started by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, but Bangladesh was well-prepared with their bowling strategies. By hitting Shreyas with some well-placed short balls, Ebadot Hossain took control of this phase. Despite the pair’s 43-run partnership, Shreyas ultimately decided against pulling Ebadot and instead skyed a ball to the wicketkeeper.

Bangladesh brought back their talisman just as India was starting their comeback, and Shakib struck right away, catching Washington off a reverse sweep. Shakib was actively involved in the action the entire time as India lost four wickets for six runs. He successfully removed Shabaz Ahmed with a good low catch at cover before striking twice to return both Shardul Thakur (beaten on the outside edge) and Deepak Chahar (LBW off an arm ball). He finished with the best figures ever for a left-arm spinner against India, 5/36.

Despite the failure, Rahul found fortunate boundaries to advance India. Ebadot, however, had the last laugh as he pulled him out for 73 before ending India’s innings for 186 with a subsequent short ball.
