After losing the opening ODI against Bangladesh in the current series played at the stadiums of the Bengal Tigers, India will be aiming to get back into the match.

The opening ODI was an exciting match, but by the end, the hosts had control of the game. The poor error made by Bangladesh’s middle and top order was made up for by Shakib Al Hasan’s five-fer and Mehidy Hasan’s crucial innings.

It’s easy to view the opening match as an unexpected result. Despite the fact that India is ranked fourth and Bangladesh is ranked seventh, the visitors have a history of dominating in this format; in fact, they have won 30 of the 37 one-day internationals (ODI) that have been played between the two teams.

Since October 2016, the hosts have not suffered a home loss in an ODI series. In the interim, they have easily defeated teams like Zimbabwe, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, and they have appeared more at ease in a format they enjoy playing.

“I have been involved in some amazing games with Bangladesh. We’ve had some narrow wins and losses, but that (win in the first ODI) was as close as they come. It shouldn’t have been that tight. When we needed 59 runs with four wickets down, we were in a pretty good position. By far, not the perfect performance. There’s a lot of work still to be done but to be able to win from that situation, says a lot about the team’s character.” – Russell Domingo
