On the morning of Day 4, Virat and Jadeja continued to put up a decent score on the board as Australia started their morning session under pressure.

The fantastic partnership between Virat Kohli and Jadeja took India close to complete the trail as India crosses 300 runs.

Virat Kohli looked at his best to be unbeaten on 59 as the hosts reached 289/3 in 99 overs, trailing Australia by 191 runs at stumps on day three of the fourth Test. Opener Shubman Gill scored his second Test century, and his first in India.

Gill dazzled the most on yet another sweltering day at the Narendra Modi Stadium with his 128 off 235 balls, laced with 12 fours and a six. On the other hand, Kohli overcame a jittery start before tea to get his first fifty in the format since the Cape Town Test in January 2022, with the help of five fours, and put India in a commanding position.

Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon worked together to start the final session. By executing the reverse sweep off Murphy for four, Gill carried on from where he left off in the second session. By dancing down the pitch to whip Lyon through mid-wicket, Gill ended a five-over non-boundary period while he and Kohli alternated the strike.

The batters’ environment didn’t really change, so Kohli kept scoring runs. He tucked Lyon through fine leg to eventually reach fifty in 107 balls and raise his bat for a half-century in Test cricket after a 14-month absence.

In the 79th over, when Gill was on the back foot and facing a full off-break ball from Lyon, Australia finally got a wicket. He was beaten on the inside edge and caught right in front of the stumps.
