Rain had initially stopped play when India were 52/4 in 16.4 overs, with KL Rahul (3)* and Axar Patel (14)* at the crease. Earlier in the innings, India’s top order collapsed as Rohit Sharma (8), Virat Kohli (0), Shubman Gill (10), and Shreyas Iyer (11) fell cheaply to Australia’s new-ball attack led by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
The drizzle, which returned several times through the afternoon, led to an extended delay as umpires and ground staff worked to dry the Optus Stadium outfield. The supersopper was in constant use before officials finally confirmed the restart timing.
With conditions clearing up, fans can expect the action to resume shortly — but the shortened 26-over contest means both teams will have to go on the attack right from the start to make up for lost time.
