Australia opener Phoebe Litchfield has smashed her maiden World Cup hundred, rising to the big occasion in the semi-final against India in Navi Mumbai. The 22-year-old brought up her ton in style — stepping out and drilling a full delivery from Shree Charani over mid-off for four.

As soon as she reached the milestone, Litchfield raised her arms and soaked in the applause. Ellyse Perry hugged her mid-pitch while the Australian dug-out stood as one to salute the young star. Litchfield entered the tournament in supreme form and this innings has stamped her class on the global stage.

At the moment, Australia are cruising at 160/1 in 25.2 overs, with Litchfield batting on 102 (84) alongside Perry, who is on 42 (53). The partnership has already crossed 135 runs.

India desperately need a breakthrough as the Aussies continue to dominate after opting to bat first. The pressure will now be on India’s bowlers to pull things back in the middle overs.
