The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the suspension of USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing repeated and continued breaches of its obligations under the ICC Constitution.
The decision was taken during the ICC Board meeting after what the governing body described as a “thorough review of affairs and extensive engagement with key stakeholders over the past year.”
According to the ICC, the suspension stems from multiple issues, including the failure to implement a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward gaining National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and significant actions that have caused reputational damage to cricket in the United States and globally.
The ICC emphasized that USA Cricket’s inability to comply with its membership obligations has left the global body with no choice but to impose the suspension.
This marks another setback for cricket’s growth in the US, coming at a time when the sport is attempting to build momentum following the T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies.
