In a significant decision, lhas officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, effective immediately. Despite bidding adieu to the longest format, Klaasen remains committed and available for selection in South Africa’s white-ball formats.
The seasoned cricketer has featured in four Tests between 2019 and 2023, with his most recent appearance against West Indies last summer. Klaasen’s retirement follows in the footsteps of Dean Elgar, another senior player who concluded his Test career in the New Year’s Test against India.
Though not part of the recent Test squad, Klaasen’s availability in white-ball cricket remains intact, and Test coach Shukri Conrad affirmed that Klaasen continues to hold significance in his plans for the team’s future endeavors.
