Gloucestershire’s LV= County Championship Second Division match against Yorkshire at Bristol has been abandoned due to a saturated pitch, which prevented any play from taking place.

The umpires, Billy Taylor and Paul Pollard, made the decision after inspecting the outfield on arrival at the Seat Unique Stadium ahead of what would have been day three of the four-day fixture. Despite the best efforts of the ground staff, the heavy rainfall in the weeks and days leading up to the match had made the outfield waterlogged and unsafe for players.

Gloucestershire’s Performance Director Steve Snell expressed his disappointment at the abandonment, especially given the efforts of the ground staff to try and get the game started. “The weather has been so wet that they faced an impossible task,” he said in a statement released by the club.

This is not the first time that weather has affected cricket matches in the UK, as the unpredictability of the British weather can often lead to games being delayed, abandoned, or even cancelled.

The abandonment of this match will also have an impact on both teams’ performances in the LV= County Championship, as they will now have to wait for their next fixtures to try and make up for lost ground. Gloucestershire is currently in sixth place in the Second Division, while Yorkshire is in third place.
