It was all smiles at the Arun Jaitley Stadium this morning as India captain Shubman Gill finally broke his losing streak at the toss. Having lost six consecutive tosses in Tests, Gill’s luck turned around today as he won the toss and opted to bat first against the West Indies in the second Test.

Even the Indian dressing room couldn’t hold back their laughter — head coach Gautam Gambhir, vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and the rest of the squad were seen sharing a light-hearted moment as Gill grinned after calling it right at last.

Gill’s Test toss record now reads: Lost, Lost, Lost, Lost, Lost, Lost, Won.

India, meanwhile, have gone unchanged for the second Test, retaining the same XI that dominated in the opening match.

India Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (vc), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

It’s a pleasant morning in Delhi, and the pitch looks tailor-made for batting early on, with enough wear expected later to assist the spinners. Gill, who looked visibly relieved after finally winning a toss, said India would “look to put runs on the board and make the most of the conditions.”
