In a setback for England pacer Brydon Carse, a 16-month ban, with 13 months suspended for two years, has been imposed on him, rendering him ineligible to play until August 28, 2024.

The ban comes in the wake of allegations that Carse placed 303 bets on various cricket matches between 2017 and 2019. Notably, these wagers did not involve games in which he was a participant, clarifies Cricket Regulator, an independent regulatory body.

As per the regulatory body’s statement, Carse will be barred from participating in any cricket activities from May 28, 2024, to August 28, 2024. However, if he refrains from further violations of anti-corruption rules over the next two years, no additional penalties will be levied against him. The statement also affirms that there were no broader integrity concerns stemming from Carse’s actions.

Expressing their stance on the matter, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) emphasized their stringent stance against corruption in cricket. They endorsed the Cricket Regulator’s decision, acknowledging the mitigating factors in Carse’s case. The ECB highlighted Carse’s cooperation and remorse, affirming his growth and understanding of his responsibilities over the past five years.

The ECB hopes that Carse’s case can serve as an educational precedent for other cricketers, underscoring the importance of upholding integrity in the sport.

Carse, who debuted for Durham in 2016, made his maiden international appearance for England in an ODI in 2021. His last outing was in December 2023, having played 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is during his career.
