On Thursday (June 2), first day of the Test match between England and New Zealand at Lord’s was stopped for 23 seconds after 23 overs in memory of late Shane Warne.
As a video of Warne’s tribute flashed on the huge screen by the official broadcasters Sky Sports, after the completion of the 23rd over, the teams and umpires queued up adjacent to the pitch and saluted the ICC Hall of Famer. Fans joined in to pay their respects to the late cricketer. For the Baggy Greens, Warne donned jersey No. 23.
Before the match, the Lord’s cricket ground commemorated Warne by designating its commentary box well after renowned cricketer’s name. ‘Shane Warne Commentary Box’ will now be the new name for the Lord’s commentary box.
Shane Warne, the legendary spin bowler, died in March 2022 and will be celebrated throughout the first Test match between England and New Zealand, which is already underway. Warne was the central figure in both the 2005 and 2006/07 Ashes series, confirming his position as being one of the game’s best ever players.
