Dhruv Jurel’s inspiring story goes viral; the wicket-keeper’s father shares inside story

Dhruv Jurel’s inspiring story doing the rounds on Internet as the batsman has proved his mettle at the international stage against England in 4th test.

Dhruv Jurel’s match-saving performance has garnered praise for his batting prowess. The wicket-keeper batsman is now also making waves on the internet due to his inspiring backstory, as revealed by his father. In an interview with the Indian Express, Dhruv Jurel’s father, Nem Singh, an ex-army man who served India during the Kargil war, disclosed that he couldn’t afford to buy Dhruv a cricket kit, which led Dhruv to lock himself in his room in frustration.

His mother had to sell her only gold chain to purchase him a cricket kit. “I had to borrow 800 rupees because we didn’t have enough money. Later, he wanted a kit bag which was very expensive, around 6000 rupees. I said, ‘Don’t play, we can’t afford it.’ But he locked himself in the bathroom, and his mother decided to pawn her only gold chain. That’s how we managed to buy his first kit bag. Looking back, I sometimes laugh at those moments, but one thing was clear: he was ready to work hard,” recalls Jurel Sr.

Dhruv Jurel’s father refrains from interfering in his cricketing life and avoids discussing cricket with his son. He stated, “I don’t talk to him about cricket anymore. The other day when he called, I asked him whether he had eaten. How has he been? I remind him not to forget his values so that everyone looks up to him. He should respect all those who have helped him thus far.”
