Dean Elgar, the former captain of South Africa, is poised to bid farewell to his illustrious international career following the upcoming two-match Test series against India. Concluding an 11-year journey, Elgar will mark the end of his cricketing chapter at the culmination of the Test series on his home turf. The Centurion will witness his penultimate Test, while the grand finale is set for Newlands, a venue laden with significance as it witnessed Elgar’s inaugural Test runs.

“Playing the game of cricket has always been a dream of mine, but having the opportunity to represent your country is the ultimate. Having had the privilege to do it for 12 years internationally is simply beyond my wildest dreams. It has been an incredible journey that I have been fortunate enough to have.” Elgar stated.

Elgar made his Test and ODI debut in 2012; however, it was the longer format where his talent and hard work made the noise. The left-handed batter has scored 5146 runs in 84 tests so far, which includes 13 tonnes and 23 half centuries. His finest innings are the 199 he scored against Bangladesh in 2017. Moreover, his 160 against India on their home soil proved his ability to play under any conditions.

“Lastly, to the fans and supporters out there: You all have played an important part in my career. Through ups and downs, you are still there to cheer me on. For this, I’ll be grateful and will always remember the great times with you all.” Elgar concluded.
