Bangladesh faces a significant setback ahead of their crucial ICC World Cup match against South Africa as their key fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed, remains uncertain due to a lingering shoulder injury. Taskin, sidelined from their last game against India, showed no signs of full recovery during the team’s training session at the Wankhede Stadium on October 22.
A member of the team management stated that Taskin’s participation against South Africa is doubtful, and although they anticipate his return for the match against Netherlands on October 28 in Kolkata, his current condition raises concerns.
Taskin initially sustained the shoulder injury during the 2022 South Africa tour, opting against surgery to prioritize the 2022 T20 World Cup. His discomfort during the England game was visible, and despite attempts to alleviate it, his performance against New Zealand fell short.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s focus extends to ODI skipper Shakib al Hasan, absent from the India match due to a quad tear. Shakib’s potential return hinges on his bowling session and a running test, with the team closely monitoring his fitness before making a final decision.
