Cricket South Africa has revealed a 14-member squad laden with fresh talent for their upcoming two-Test tour of New Zealand in January, with Neil Brand set to lead the team. The squad showcases seven uncapped players, with Brand having previously captained South Africa’s A side in a recent series against West Indies A.
The timing of the SA20 League tournament has led to the omission of key South African players, providing an opportunity for the emerging talents to make their mark. Only three players from the ongoing home series against India have made the cut for the New Zealand tour.

Marking a return to the squad, Khaya Zondo joins forces with Dane Paterson and Duanne Olivier, both making a comeback after a brief hiatus. The relatively inexperienced composition of the side may give New Zealand an advantage, but South Africa’s Test coach, Shukri Conrad, expresses confidence in the young guns.
The squad includes Neil Brand (captain), David Bedingham, Ruan de Swardt, Clyde Fortuin, Zubayr Hamza, Tshepo Moreki, Mihlali Mpongwana, Duanne Olivier, Dane Paterson, Keegan Petersen, Dane Piedt, Raynard van Tonder, Shaun von Berg, and Khaya Zondo.
Congratulating the newcomers, Conrad emphasizes the honor of representing the country and urges them to savor the moment. He believes that the players selected for the tour are well-equipped to challenge New Zealand, drawing on their recent experience in the ‘A’ series against West Indies players of international caliber. This exposure, according to Conrad, positions them favorably for what is expected to be a challenging series in New Zealand.
