Australian cricketer Mitchell Starc spoke out on the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 and the upcoming T20 World Cup. Commenting on the impact player rule and balance of the bat and ball.
Playing in the current season of IPL, Starc’s comments were slightly on the high-scoring IPL season and the difference he expects in the T20 World Cup. The pacer also highlighted that ‘Impact’ is absent in International cricket which affects the balance of bat and ball.
“I think it probably will,” Mitchell Starc said. “People talk about the balance of the team when you can’t just bring someone in. Your all-rounders come back into play. Captains have to think a bit tactically, too, when you have just 11 players.”
He further explained how the Impact Player rule changes the dynamics of team composition, allowing for a longer batting lineup. Starc acknowledged the exceptional batting performances in the IPL but emphasized the role of the Impact Player in reshaping teams’ strategies.
The left-arm pacer, who had a standout performance in a recent match, discussed his approach to bowling in the IPL, indicating his focus on assessing conditions and adapting strategies accordingly.
Reflecting on his return to the IPL after a long absence due to international commitments, Starc expressed confidence in managing his workload leading up to the T20 World Cup.
“It’s T20 cricket, it’s not as demanding as Test match cricket,” he said. “Physically it is not a problem and it’s fantastic lead-in to play here in the best T20 league in the world.”
