During the ongoing India vs Australia 2nd T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), a broadcast graphic error caught the attention of fans when Abhishek Sharma’s six was mistakenly credited to Shubman Gill.
The on-screen analytics, displaying detailed visuals of bat speed, ball trajectory, and impact angle, showed “Shubman Gill – Six” even though it was Abhishek Sharma who had launched the delivery for a massive maximum off Xavier Bartlett in the opening over. The error occurred just moments before Gill’s actual dismissal for 5 off 10 balls, caught by Mitchell Marsh off Josh Hazlewood.
According to the live commentary, Abhishek’s aggressive approach helped India get off to a flying start, striking 14 runs off just 4 balls, including that cleanly lofted drive over extra cover.
While fans on social media were quick to point out the broadcaster’s mistake, many found humor in the mix-up, calling it an “MCG moment” that briefly turned Abhishek’s fireworks into Gill’s highlight reel.
At the time of the writing this article, India stood at 20/1 in 2.4 overs, after Gill’s early departure.
