Team India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been taken to the hospital after sustaining an injury to his left rib cage while fielding during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Earlier in the match, Iyer had put his body on the line to take a stunning catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling. However, in the process, he fell awkwardly and appeared to have injured his left side. The physio and support staff rushed to the field, and Iyer was seen in visible pain as he was helped off.
Shortly after, the BCCI medical team confirmed that Iyer has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation and assessment of his injury.
Prior to this update, Iyer had already walked off the field in extreme discomfort, with initial signs suggesting a potential hip or rib strain. The situation now seems more serious, raising doubts about his participation in the remainder of the match and the upcoming fixtures.
Fans and teammates alike are hoping for good news, as Iyer’s form and leadership have been crucial for India in recent months.
