In the early hours of Monday, February 20, Australian media reported that Australia captain Pat Cummins would take a flight back home in the middle of the highly publicised Test series between India and Australia to attend to a personal family matter. Prior to the third Test match, which will start on March 1 in Indore, Cummins is anticipated to reunite with the group.

Cummins isn’t anticipated to miss a Test, but vice-captain Steven Smith would take the helm if necessary. Since the fast bowler assumed the Test captaincy in late 2021, Smith has led the team on two occasions when Cummins was not present.

Although Cummins was the only quick in Australia’s XI in Delhi, India easily defeated Australia’s target of 115 to win the Test in three days. Cummins did not bowl in the fourth innings of the match. Australia’s current tour to India has not gone well under Cummins’ direction, as they have failed to perform in back-to-back Test matches. They struggled to cope with the spin test, losing both Tests in Nagpur and New Delhi within the first three days of play.
