For Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed on Tuesday to allow 50% occupancy at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) IS Bindra Stadium. It begins on Friday, when India takes against Sri Lanka, assuming that all current COVID-19 regulations are followed.
Tickets for the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka will go on sale on Wednesday. Following a late-day meeting at the PCA Stadium, the development was revealed to News9 on Tuesday. The PCA has agreed to adopt the BCCI’s principles, which state that all relevant processes must be followed. The recent T20Is in Dharamsala had also had 50% attendance, and there had been a lot of pressure on the BCCI to follow suit for Kohli’s 100th Test from cricket fans and the media.
Kohli has 7962 runs at an average of 50.39 in 99 Test matches, with 27 hundreds and 28 half-centuries, putting him in sixth position on India’s all-time list. He led India to victory in 40 of their 68 Test matches, making him the most successful Test captain. Kohli’s stint saw India rise to No. 1 in the ICC Test rankings and lead them to the maiden World Test Championship final, which they lost to New Zealand last summer.
His momentous Test was originally scheduled to take place in Bengaluru, the home of Kohli’s IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore, but was rescheduled to Mohali last month after the BCCI rearranged the Sri Lanka series’ schedule. For the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Kohli was rested. In Mohali, he has now joined the team.
