BCCI: Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma were never part of Squad, Shreyas Iyer will bat at no 3

India’s Tour of Australia is just a couple of days away. However, the controversies continue to hover around the Indian team selection. Adding to it, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Rohit and Ishant Sharma were never part of the Test squad against the Australians. Presently, both are recovering from their injuries at National Cricket Academy (NCA).

BCCI has also cleared who will replace Virat Kohli at No.3. The Board has named Shreyas Iyer as a replacement. BCCI was quoted saying by Times of India “Rohit and Ishant were anyways not part of the squad. An 18-member team was announced for the four Tests. Now that Virat (Kohli) is returning, we’re hoping Shreyas Iyer will stay back for the series”,

Certain reports have suggested that Rohit was in line to head directly from UAE to Australia. Along the rest of the Indian team but suddenly the plan changed. Rohit flew back at India to nurse his injury at the NCA. The BCCI, however, has issued a clarification saying that was never a part of the plan as neither Rohit nor Ishant made it to India’s squad for the series. There are even suggestions that Rohit decided to head to the NCA himself as it wasn’t a BCCI recommendation.

According to some reports: “Rohit was expected to board the flight with the rest of the team on November 12. But he chose not to and instead headed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA).”
