In a historic move, BCCI President Roger Binny and Vice-President Rajiv Shukla crossed the Attari-Wagah border to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had extended an invitation to the Indian cricket board to attend the matches in the Pakistan leg of the tournament, and the BCCI nominated its top officials for the occasion.

The image of Binny and Shukla at the iconic Wagah border crossing quickly went viral on social media, signaling the significance of their visit. While speaking about the trip, Binny stated, “BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla and I will travel to Pakistan through the Wagah Border on September 4. Apart from the official dinner, we will also witness a couple of matches during our stay.”

He further elaborated that on September 7, they would return to India. This visit holds immense historical value as it marks the first trip by a BCCI president to Pakistan since the bilateral cricket relationship between the two nations was severed following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Asia Cup 2023 has seen Pakistan host four matches, while Sri Lanka will host nine as part of the tournament. This diplomatic cricket engagement between India and Pakistan during the Asia Cup is a significant step toward fostering better relations through the sport they both hold dear.
