In a recent announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the appointments of Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar to key positions within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
What is the Asian Cricket Council?
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is the governing body for cricket in Asia, responsible for promoting and developing the sport across its member nations. Founded in 1983, the ACC plays a pivotal role in organizing premier regional tournaments, including the Asia Cup, while also overseeing other development programs.
Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the ACC collaborates with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to expand cricket’s reach in both Test-playing and associate nations. With cricket gaining traction in newer Asian territories, the ACC’s role has become more vital than ever.
BCCI’s Key appointments in ACC
Veteran cricket administrator Rajeev Shukla has been named an Executive Board Member of the ACC, representing the BCCI at the highest level of decision-making. Shukla, who has previously held key positions within the Indian cricket administration, is expected to bring his vast experience to further the objectives of Asian cricket.
Meanwhile, Ashish Shelar, BCCI’s treasurer, has been designated as the Ex-Officio Board Member of the ACC. This appointment ensures India’s continuous engagement in key discussions regarding the sport’s growth and expansion in the region.
India’s growing influence in the ACC
BCCI’s latest appointments reaffirm India’s dominant role in shaping the future of Asian cricket. With Shukla and Shelar taking on key responsibilities, the Indian board is well-positioned to influence major policy decisions, tournament structures, and development initiatives within the ACC.
