Bangladesh achieved a remarkable victory over Afghanistan in a one-off Test, winning by a massive margin of 546 runs. This historic triumph is the largest victory in terms of runs in the twenty-first century and the third biggest overall. With a commanding 236-run lead in the first innings and a 370-run advantage at the end of day two, Bangladesh opted not to enforce the follow-on.
Bangladesh’s batting duo built an unbroken partnership of 116 runs in the second innings. Ebadot Hossain’s impressive figures of 4-47 contributed to wrapping up Afghanistan’s innings for just 146 runs. Spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam claimed two wickets each, securing the victory.
Afghanistan struggled with their batting, losing wickets early on. Bangladesh’s sudden collapse in their first innings resulted in a low score of 382. Nijat Masood and Yamin Ahmadzai stood out in Afghanistan’s bowling attack, but their batting lineup could not withstand Bangladesh’s dominance.
This resounding victory by Bangladesh reflects their strength on home turf and sets a new benchmark for future matches.
