The captain of Australia’s women’s cricket team, Meg Lanning, has made the decision to withdraw from the game indefinitely. Lanning took a vacation after winning the gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, citing personal reasons.

While making the announcement, Lanning said, “After a busy couple of years I’ve made the decision to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself.” Cricket Australia came in to support the skipper with her decision. The board tweeted saying, “If anyone deserves a break, it’s Meg Lanning.” Meg Lanning thanked the board and her teammates for the support and said, “I’m grateful for the support of CA (Cricket Australia) and my teammates and ask that my privacy is respected during this time.”
