Australia opener Travis Head fell short of a major personal milestone during the third ODI against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), as he was dismissed for 29 off 25 balls, just when he seemed set for another explosive knock.
Head, who needed eight more boundaries to complete 350 fours in One Day Internationals, failed to reach the landmark after being caught by Prasidh Krishna off Mohammed Siraj. His innings included six boundaries, meaning he now sits just two short of the milestone.
The dismissal came in the 10th over, with Australia at 61/1, after a strong opening stand alongside skipper Mitchell Marsh. Siraj bowled a short-of-a-length delivery, and Head, attempting to cut late, only managed to guide it straight to backward point, where Prasidh completed a clean catch.
Despite missing out on the boundary record, Travis Head achieved another feat earlier in the day, becoming both the fastest Australian to reach 3,000 ODI runs (76 innings) and the fourth fastest in the world to achieve the milestone by balls faced (2,839 balls) — surpassing Jonny Bairstow.
His quickfire start once again underlined his aggressive intent at the top, but his early exit means the wait for 350 ODI boundaries continues. At the time of his dismissal, Australia were 61/1 in 9.2 overs, looking to post a commanding total after opting to bat first.
