India struck at a crucial moment during the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as Washington Sundar dismissed Matt Renshaw for 56 runs off 58 balls. The left-hander, who had looked settled after bringing up a fine half-century, misjudged a full delivery that skidded in with the angle and was adjudged LBW after a successful review.
The incident occurred in the 37th over, when Sundar fired in a delivery at 91.9 kph that angled into Renshaw. The Australian batter stepped forward to flick but missed, getting struck plumb in front of the stumps. While Renshaw immediately reviewed the decision, Snicko confirmed no edge, and ball tracking showed it crashing into the leg stump — all three reds, sending the southpaw back to the pavilion.
Renshaw’s dismissal ended a steady partnership that had helped Australia recover from early blows. At the time of his dismissal, Australia stood at 195/5 (36.2 overs) with Cooper Connolly at the crease.
Sundar has been India’s standout bowler so far, maintaining a tight line and length while keeping the scoring rate under control. His spell of 9.2 overs, 42 runs, and 2 wickets reflects his impact in the middle overs.
With Renshaw’s wicket, India will now aim to tighten the screws and restrict Australia below 280 on a surface that seems to be getting slower as the match progresses.
