There was a worrying moment for Team India during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) when Shreyas Iyer appeared to suffer a painful injury after taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey.

The incident unfolded in the 27th over when Harshit Rana delivered a short-of-length ball outside off at 134.1 kmph. Carey went for an ambitious cut shot but mistimed it badly, sending the ball high into the air. Iyer, fielding at backward point, ran backward and timed his jump perfectly to complete a sensational over-the-shoulder catch — one that drew loud cheers from the Indian fans in the stands.

However, the joy quickly turned to concern as Iyer fell awkwardly on his left hip while landing and was seen writhing in visible pain. The Indian physio and support staff rushed onto the field immediately to attend to him. After a brief check, Iyer was seen limping off the ground, holding his hip and grimacing, clearly struggling to move comfortably.

The dismissal of Carey for 24 off 37 balls (1 four) came as a crucial breakthrough for India, but Iyer’s injury cast a shadow over the moment. As the game paused for drinks, Indian players were seen regrouping while fans expressed their concern for the middle-order batter.

As per the latest update, Shreyas Iyer has walked off the field and is under medical observation. His condition will be reassessed before a decision is made on whether he can return later in the match.
