After India’s commanding win in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh was full of praise for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, whose record-breaking partnership sealed the match and prevented a whitewash.
“We have seen Rohit and Virat do that over the last 10 years. We needed one more partnership towards the back end. India were too good,” Marsh said at the post-match presentation.
While acknowledging his team’s shortcomings in the Sydney clash, Marsh lauded the collective effort that earned Australia a 2–1 series victory.
“A lot of learnings for us. To get the job done in the first two matches, we should be proud,” he added.
Marsh, who led Australia’s young squad in the absence of several senior players, emphasized the importance of building consistency and learning from close contests like the SCG match.
India’s win was powered by centuries from Rohit Sharma and a fifty from Virat Kohli, marking their first 100-run partnership in five years and extending their legacy as one of ODI cricket’s most successful pairs.
Despite the loss, Marsh’s tone reflected respect — both for India’s experienced campaigners and for his team’s fighting spirit throughout the series.
