Australia’s innings has taken another major blow as Brydon Carse dismissed Steve Smith for 17, leaving the hosts reeling at 30/3 in the opening Ashes Test in Perth.

Carse, who had already been bowling with fiery intent, finally broke through with a perfectly executed short-of-length delivery that angled in before seaming away. Smith, who had been repeatedly squared up all innings, shuffled across once again — and this time paid the price.

The ball kissed the outside edge and flew straight to Harry Brook at second slip, who made no mistake.
Smith walked off visibly frustrated, knowing he could have left the ball had he not shuffled across his stumps.

The wicket has completely tilted momentum England’s way:

  • Jake Weatherald: lbw Archer (0)
  • Marnus Labuschagne: bowled Archer (9)
  • Steve Smith: c Brook b Carse (17)

Australia are now 30/3, still trailing by 142 runs, with Usman Khawaja at the crease battling illness and far from 100% fit.

England, meanwhile, are on fire, sensing a golden opportunity to seize full control of the Test with relentless pace and accuracy.
