With a win over Sri Lanka on the final day morning, the Monday proved to be substantial for the England skipper Joe Root in the office. Root touched the 24th Test win mark equaling the record by Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss. He is only behind Michael Vaughan who has won 26 Test matches from 51 as England’s captain.
Root has captained in 45 Test matches while Cook and Strauss had captained England in 59 and 50 matches respectively. Captaining England in 45 matches, Root’s side lost 15 games and won 25. Root became the captain for the Test team in February, 2017 after Cook stepped down as their captain. He became the 80th English skipper.
England continue their winning streak in Sri Lanka. England clinched an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2012 to level the series 1-1. In 2018-19, the Englishmen completely washed-out SL posting a 3-0 win. Beating the hosts by seven wickets, the visitors wrapped up the game early in the morning.
