Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, expressed confidence that India has a 100 percent chance of winning the final of the World Test Championship by successfully chasing down the target of 280 runs on the final day of the match. At the end of the fourth day’s play, India stood at 164 runs for the loss of three wickets, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease. Shami, speaking at the post-match press conference, emphasized that the task at hand is not difficult for the Indian team.
“100 per cent everyone believes that tomorrow we will win the match. Because we have always fought. We perform well around the world. Not here only. So, we believe and we always come together to win this match,” Shami said at the press conference.
Shami highlighted India’s fighting spirit and their strong performances across the globe, stating that the team believes in their ability to win the match. He emphasized that India has always come together as a team to achieve victory. According to Shami, the target of 280 runs is not a massive total against the Australian bowling attack, and India can achieve it by focusing on each ball.
“According to me, if you bat well, 280 runs – is not a big score. So, according to me, you should bat normally as a Test match. You should focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. So, according to me, chances of success are higher there. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success. So, according to me, you should play normally,” Shami concluded.
The pacer advised his teammates to approach the chase like a normal Test match and focus on playing ball by ball. He stressed the importance of setting small goals and targets, stating that by doing so, the chances of success increase. Shami concluded by stating that India should play normally and take the match one step at a time.
India faced a target of 444 runs at The Oval and experienced an early setback with the loss of three wickets before reaching 100 runs. However, a strong recovery led by Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli has put India in a promising position to compete for victory.
