Heading into the 2023 NFL draft, C.J. Stroud emerged from Ohio State as the quarterback with the most polished skill set and NFL readiness among his peers. Yet, even the most optimistic analysts couldn’t have predicted just how far ahead Stroud would be compared to his competition. His rookie season turned out to be a standout performance, arguably one of the best debut seasons for a Pro quarterback in recent memory, rivaling the likes of Cam Newton’s stellar 2011 campaign.
By the end of the 2023 season, Stroud had compiled a 9-6 record, passing for over 4,000 yards with 23 touchdowns and a mere five interceptions, showcasing exceptional efficiency right from the start of his NFL career.
However, success in the NFL is never guaranteed, as even some of the most gifted college quarterbacks have struggled in their rookie years. Notable examples include Peyton Manning, who famously threw more interceptions than touchdowns in his debut season despite being a No. 1 overall pick.
What sets Stroud apart appears to be his fierce competitive nature, a trait essential for longevity in the NFL. His ability to respond to trash talk from opponents, notably the Colts, exemplifies this competitive edge.
Looking ahead, the upcoming season promises to reignite rivalries, with the Texans scheduled to face the Colts in Week 1, following a split series between the teams last year.
As the NFL gears up for another exciting season, all eyes will be on Stroud to see if he can sustain his impressive rookie form and further solidify his place among the league’s top quarterbacks.
