On Wednesday, the Indian mixed relay team bagged a fantastic bronze medal for the country as the team featured Barath Sridhar, Priya Habbathanahalli Mohan, Summy, Kapil as they performed exceptionally and worth inspiring for the entire nation. The 4×400 m relay was taken place in Nigeria on Wednesday with many teams participating in this contest to win a medal for their nation. Nigeria bagged the goal medal as they clocked a mammoth 3:19:40 as Poland gave a tough fight but ends up taking the silver. The Indian quartet clocked its record of 3:20:60 to take home the bronze medal. For the final, India had made a key change in bringing Barath Sridhar in place of Abdul Razak Rasheed.

The Athletics Federation of India also celebrated by putting it on Twitter ” Official time 3:20:60, a season-best for Team India 4*400m mixed relay team & a Bronze medal at the U20 World Champions in Nairobi”. There was a shower of appreciation and respect shown by the nation as they applauded for the same for their exceptional performance in the U20 World Champions which was held in Nairobi this year.

India finished behind Poland and Nigeria to take home the bronze. This is also India’s fifth medal at the Athletics U-20 World Championships but just the second one in a track event after Hima Das’ 400m gold medal in 2018. India has now won medals at four successive Athletics U-20 World Championships, something which truly never happened in the history of our nation. In the first heat of the day, the team of Abdul Razak Rasheed, Priya Mohan, Summy and Kapil had clocked a time of 3:23.36 to finish ahead of the Czech Republic, Jamaica and Poland.  India’s Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana and Jay Kumar qualified for the final after finishing 6th and 7th respectively in qualification in the men’s javelin throw held this year.

The final of the U20 World Champions will now be held this Friday in the afternoon session.
