Ricky Hatton, the British boxing icon known as “The Hitman,” shocked the sporting world earlier this year when he announced plans to return to the professional ring after more than a decade away. The comeback was scheduled for December 2, 2025, in Dubai. But following Hatton’s tragic death on 14 September 2025, the fight will never take place. Here’s everything you need to know about his planned final bout.
The Comeback Announcement
In July 2025, Hatton confirmed that he was officially ending his 13-year retirement. His last professional fight had been in November 2012, when he lost to Vyacheslav Senchenko. At 46, Hatton promised fans one final night under the lights in what was being billed as a “one-night only” return.
The event was to take place in Dubai as part of a high-profile boxing card called “Destiny in the Desert,” tied to the UAE’s National Day celebrations.
Who Is Eisa Al Dah? Meet Hatton’s Opponent
Eisa Al Dah holds a professional boxing record of 8-3, with most of his fights occurring in the UAE. A pioneer as the country’s first licensed professional boxer, Al Dah debuted in the sport later in life and has balanced his ring career with promotion duties. Since 2022, he’s staged 11 events in Dubai, including the one announcing the Hatton fight.
At 46, Al Dah shares Hatton’s age and a similar underdog spirit, vowing an “all-action encounter.” While not a world-level threat, his experience and home-soil advantage made him an intriguing foil for Hatton’s power-punching style. Analysts saw the bout as a nostalgic showcase rather than a title eliminator, allowing Hatton to entertain without the pressure of elite competition.
Tragically, Ricky Hatton’s sudden death in September brought those plans to an end. He passed away at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, just months before the comeback. Police confirmed his death was not being treated as suspicious, though the official cause has not yet been released.
His passing meant that the Dubai bout against Eisa Al Dah — one that was supposed to mark the final chapter of his remarkable career — will remain a fight that never happened.
