Unique Airtel 5G users reach 1 million in less than a month

The launch of Airtel’s 5G services in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi was announced last month.

Only a few weeks after introducing the high-speed services in India, telecom provider Airtel has surpassed the one million mark for unique 5G users.

Less than 30 days after the company’s commercial debut of its high-speed 5G services, it reached this milestone.

The launch of Airtel’s 5G services in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi was announced last month.

The telecom operator said in a statement on Wednesday that the services in these cities are being introduced gradually as the company builds out its network and completes the roll out.

“These are early days but the response from customers have been very encouraging. Our network is being built every day even as all 5G devices are now capable of working on the Airtel 5G Plus network barring a few exceptions which should also be done in the coming weeks,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO at Bharti Airtel.

“We will continue to advance our network with a vision to connect the entire country,” Sekhon added.

According to Airtel, it started the 5G trials in 2021 and was the first operator to introduce 5G on a commercial scale in the nation.

Until the rollout is more extensive, customers with 5G smart phones can enjoy the high speed Airtel 5G Plus on their current data plans. Since the current Airtel 4G SIM supports 5G, there is no need to switch out the SIM.
