Telecom equipment maker Ericsson and mobile operator Vodafone have entered into a five-year strategic partnership aimed at modernizing Vodafone’s networks in multiple countries using Ericsson’s programmable 5G solutions, the companies announced on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will serve as the sole supplier of radio access networks (RAN) in Ireland, the Netherlands, and Portugal, while also becoming the main supplier in Germany, Romania, and Egypt.

The collaboration will focus on deploying AI-driven automation and energy-efficient technologies, enabling Vodafone to enhance network performance, reduce operational costs, and improve sustainability across its infrastructure.

Although no financial details were disclosed, the deal marks a significant step in Vodafone’s long-term strategy to upgrade its European and African network capabilities and deliver high-performance 5G connectivity to customers.
