Bharti Airtel has announced a major expansion of its AI-powered anti-spam solution, enhancing the user experience and security for millions of mobile customers across India. The new features include spam alerts for international calls and messages, and notification support in 10 Indian languages to ensure better accessibility for users across the country.
The update comes as part of Airtel’s ongoing mission to curb unwanted communication. Since the launch of its anti-spam tool in September 2024, the company has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls, or an average of 1,560 spam calls every second, resulting in a 16% decline in spam calls received by Airtel users.
The newly added features are a response to a shift in spammers’ tactics, who have started routing fraudulent traffic through foreign networks after domestic restrictions tightened. Airtel noted a 12% increase in overseas spam calls over the past six months, which the new update aims to neutralize.
Now, users will receive real-time spam alerts for both domestic and international calls and SMS, displayed in their preferred regional languages. The feature supports Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi, and Telugu, and will be rolled out automatically for all Android users without requiring a service request.
“These enhancements reflect our commitment to customer feedback and the linguistic diversity of India,” said Siddharth Sharma, Director of Marketing and CEO, Connected Homes, Bharti Airtel. “Our AI system is now equipped to detect spam originating from international sources, helping customers stay protected from evolving threats.”
The spam alert notifications are free of charge and will auto-activate across the network for all eligible customers.
Bharti Airtel’s AI-driven spam management system, launched as an industry-first initiative, has already been recognized as a game-changer in reducing unsolicited communication. The company reiterated its commitment to continuously improving the platform with the help of in-house engineers and data scientists.
