On Sunday the government stated that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available for children between age group 12-18 may start by the end of July or latest by August.
Dr.N K Arora who is the chairman of COVID 19 working group of NTAGI, the national technical advisory group on immunization said, that the trial for the Zydus Cadila vaccine is almost complete. By July end or in August, they might be able to start administrating the vaccination to children between the age of 12-18. At the moment only people who are above the age of 18 are eligible for taking the vaccination.
Dr N K Arora also added ahead that after studying the ICMR studies the 3rd wave is likely to come late, and before it arrives the government is targeting to achieve a goal of at least 1 crore doses per day so that the entire nation can be vaccinated between the time period of six to eight months. The NTAGI chief also mentioned that the rumours spreading about all the vaccination in the country are vague and that the vaccines in India are approximately 95-96% safe.
Dr N K Arora added later, “ICMR has come up with a method of study that says that we will experience the 3rd wave really late. We have a window period for 6-8 months for mass vaccination to be safe.”
On Saturday, the Supreme Court announced that the vaccination developed by Zydus Cadila will be soon available for children who are 12 and above.
