The union health ministry has appealed to the states to declare mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, an epidemic. It’s basically a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.

The ministry also directs that all government and private health facilities, medical colleges, to follow the screening, diagnosis, and management of mucormycosis, issued by MoFHW and ICMR.
Though, Telangana and Rajasthan have already declared black fungus (mucormycosis) an epidemic.
