Starting from Monday, the Karnataka government has provided significant relaxation from COVID-19 restrictions in the state. The state government has allowed the opening of cinema halls and higher educational institutions, subject to certain conditions that need to be complied with. The BS Yediyurappa led government also relaxed the night curfew timings by two hours. The raft of decisions were taken in a meeting between the chief minister and senior ministers of the cabinet.

The Karnataka government has given permission to cinema theatres in the state to restart their operations from Monday with a 50 per cent occupancy rate. They will need to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols laid down by the health authorities.

Higher educational institutions like colleges and universities will be allowed to open for physical classes from July 26. However, only students who have been administered one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to attend the physical lectures in educational institutions.

A Relaxation has also been provided in the night curfew timings by the state government. A night curfew will now be implemented from 10 PM to 5 AM, two hours less than the existing time period between 9 PM and 6 AM.

The restrictions had been imposed in the wake of an increase in COVID-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic in April 2021. However, with the number of Coronavirus cases subsiding across the state, the restrictions are being removed.

Karnataka, on Saturday, recorded 1,869 new cases of COVID-19 infections and 42 deaths. The number of vaccinations stood at 3,55,149 in the southern state on Saturday.
