India reported 29,271 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day cases yet. The Coronavirus tally has increased to 8,79,060, just two days after hitting the 8 lakh mark. As per the numbers released by the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases stands at 3,02,466 while over 5.53 lakh patients have recovered or cured.
The country’s death toll rose to 23,175 after 492 patients succumbed to the infection on Sunday.
– On Sunday, south India alone reported over 10,000 cases, with Karnataka at 2,627 cases and Andhra Pradesh 1,933 cases.
– Other states like West Bengal (1,560), Bihar (1,266), Gujarat (879) and Chattisgarh (184) reported the biggest single-day spike in their cases as well.
– Maharashtra remains the worst-affected Indian state in terms of both the number of cases and total deaths.
– In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 7,827 new cases taking the tally to 2,54,247.
– The total number of active cases stands at 1,03,516.
– On Sunday, 173 patients died of the Coronavirus infection.
– The state’s fatality rate has declined to 4% from 4.5-4.7%.
– The national capital Delhi saw a slight decline in their daily number of cases.
– On Sunday, the state reported 1,573 new cases and 37 fatalities, a drop from 2,505 daily cases at the beginning of the week.
While the focus has been on recoveries, India has been witnessing a sharp increase in the daily cases. The 1 lakh mark was hit on June 4 and it took the states 23 days to reach the 2 lakh mark. But the 3 lakh mark took just 15 days.
