On Wednesday, the nationwide COVID-19 cases neared 2.8 lakh. Almost one-third of the cases were detected in the first 10 days of June. On a positive note, the total number of recoveries have crossed the number of active cases at the moment.
In the last 10 days, nearly 90,000 fresh cases have been registered and nearly one-third of the deaths have also been reported.
India’s first COVID-19 case was registered 4 months ago, on January 30. It took more than 100 days for the case count to reach the 1 lakh mark on May 18. However, it took just about a fortnight to add another 1 lakh cases to the tally. At the current rate, India will hit a total of 3 lakh cases this week itself.
The number of cases in Maharashtra reached 94,041 on Wednesday and the death toll rose to 3,438.
In the last 24 hours, 3,254 fresh cases were registered and 149 new fatalities were recorded.
On a brighter side, more than 44,500 patients have recovered in the state.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown restrictions have been eased a bit to allow the resumption of businesses and other activities but the Coronavirus threat still exists.
In Tamil Nadu, 1,927 new cases were reported and 19 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours.
The tally has reached 36,841 and the death toll rose to 326.
The state government announced the recruitment of 2,800 medical personnel which includes over 1,200 doctors and also proposed to double the number of beds in the state hospitals to 10,000.
